On October 6, 2026, the Archdiocese of Guadalajara (Mexico) officially opened the diocesan phase of the Cause for Beatification and Canonization of Fr. Ignacio Larrañaga, who passed away in this city in October 2013.
The legal act, presided over by His Excellency Bishop Juan Manuel Muñoz Curiel and with the ecclesiastical tribunal established, also included the participation of the International Coordinator, Lorena Rodriguez Mediavilla, the International Secretary, Purificacion Vilar Gonzalez, the International Treasurer, Mercedes Sanz Fortea, and Father Ignacio’s nephew, Miguel Angel Etxeberria Larrañaga, as well as the presence of numerous witnesses and Guides who had come from different parts of Mexico and the United States, and some Capuchin Brothers from the Guadalajara Community.
During the ceremony, the nihil obstat from the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints was read, as well as the Decree for the introduction of the Cause and opening of the Process of His Eminence and Most Reverend Cardinal Jose Francisco Robles Ortega, Archbishop of Guadalajara.
